More on Project Interviews

This adds to my entry on Project Interviews.

I wasn't going to use more than one set of meters or graphs for a project, but the field is so full of challenges and interesting nuances, that I couldn't resist. It may not be last one either.

So I have added a second page of meters for the interview making for eight in all.

Interview Matrix - 2

Here is what I am looking in each of these "meters":

  • Pains in the Backside. There are many many things that drive you loopy when running a project and the ones that recur can drive you nuts. It is always a struggle if you have these things going wrong or becoming a pain in the backside.
  • Wonderful Things. Conversely, the many things that go right and that are under control can certainly add to your wonderful experience as a PM.
  • % Time Spent on Knowledge Areas. I am very interested to hear how much explicit attention is paid to the knowledge areas of the PMBOK. This might give me some insight and might actually assist the project manager being interviewed as he/she may be neglecting some area.
  • The Person for the Times. I am not sure how this will go, but I suspect that project managers have a view of what type of person is required at what stage of a project. Perhaps also they might see themselves fulfilling a particular role at the time of the interview. It will be interesting to see what response I get, if indeed I can elicit one in the first instance.
